Reading Quality MARK
In July 2019 we achieved the Liverpool Gold Quality Mark for Reading
Reading Quality Mark (RQM) has been developed with a focus to promote reading for enjoyment amongst children. The programme is accessible to all schools who feel they meet the criteria.
Schools can be accredited with a bronze, silver or gold award, which recognises the effort that they have made in promoting the joy of reading amongst their pupils.
In order to attain these awards schools will be assessed across six themes, and whether they meet the criteria for bronze, silver or the gold award.
Key themes include:
This is an exciting project that schools should take full advantage of, in order to increase the achievements of their pupils.
Useful Links for Parents
Literacy Shed is a great resource for parents to encourage reading at home, it has some great stories to watch or read through with your child and has questions you can ask to test their knowledge about the book.
Read for Good is a charity that supplies books and arranges storytelling sessions for children's hospitals. The majority of their donations are made from sponsored 'Readathons'. If you would like to learn more about how your child can get involved, visit the website or call school.
The Storybarn is based in Calderstones Park, it regularly holds fun story time sessions for children aged 3-8 years for only £4 per child. A great place to visit and encourage reading for pleasure.
The Reader organises shared reading groups for adults all over the UK, many of these groups take place in Liverpool libraries. Please check the website to find out more information and see if you can attend a reading at your local library.
We are working in conjunction with the Literacy Trust to achieve our reading quality mark.
